SSO Musicians' Awards for Outstanding CNY Music Educators
Those who foster a love of music in children—and inspire the next generation of musicians—hold a special place in the hearts of orchestra members. Every year for nearly a decade, SSO Musicians' Awards for Outstanding CNY Music Educators have been presented to dynamic area educators selected by a committee of music educators and SSO musicians. The awards are given not only to recognize and honor the region's exceptional music educators, but also to enhance understanding and communication between the SSO and area teachers. SSA Practice Marathon
For more than a decade, area students in grades K-12 have had the unique opportunity to support the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra simply by practicing their instruments! Sponsored by the Syracuse Symphony Association (SSA), the Annual Practice Marathon has raised thousands of dollars to benefit the Orchestra, while teaching children about community service.
During the annual awards ceremony, the SSA recognizes students, teachers and schools for their fundraising efforts. Awards are presented to top earners, as well as to those who log the most practice time, and winners take to the stage to perform musical selections.
Patricia Sharpe, an oboist with the Orchestra, has served as a volunteer organizer of this event for many years. For information about the SSA Practice Marathon, contact Mary Lou Smullen, SSA President, at (315) 637-1512, or visit www.ssapracticemarathon.com
SSO/CMM Youth Concerto Competition

This important competition gives talented musicians in grades 7 through 12 a chance to compete for the opportunity to perform with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Auditions are in late fall/early winter, with SSO Music Director Daniel Hege judging. Winners are invited to perform as guest soloists during the annual SSO/SSYO Side-By-Side concert in March.
For information about auditions, visit the CMM website at www.civicmorningmusicals.org.

SSYO Concerto Competition
The annual Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition gives winners an opportunity to appear as guest soloists during the SSYO's annual spring concert. This competition, judged by members of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, is open only to members of the SSYO.
