Honor Gifts and Memorial Tributes
Pay lasting tribute to someone special to you by making a donation in their honor or memory. Honor Gifts celebrate an occasion or achievement of a friend or relative. This unique gift is a personal recognition of holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions. Memorial Tributes are powerful expressions of sympathy, which demonstrate your condolences for another during a time of loss.
Through an Honor Gift or Memorial Tribute, the Orchestra will send a personal acknowledgment to the family or individual honored, without reference to the amount of the gift, informing them of your kind gesture to them and the Symphony. For your tax records, you will receive an acknowledgment card.
For further information on this form of giving or for personal handling of your Honor Gift or Memorial Tribute, please call the SSO Development Office, at (315) 424-8222, or write to: Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Development Office 411 Montgomery Street, Suite 40 Syracuse, NY 13202.
Appreciated Stocks
A gift of appreciated stock to the Symphony enables donors to obtain significant tax benefits. Donors receive an income tax deduction equal to the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift. In addition, no capital gains tax is due when the Symphony sells the stock and the full value of the gift supports the work of the Symphony. Donating appreciated stock is as easy as 1, 2, 3...
1. Call our Director of Development, and notify her that you will be making a gift of stock. Please provide your name, address, and phone number as well as the type and number of shares of the security. With this information, we will ensure that the transaction is monitored properly and that you receive proper recognition in donor listings and accrue all benefits for your donation.
2. If the securities are in the possession of your stock broker, instruct your broker to transfer the securities to Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Inc.
Your broker will need to contact the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Broker, Charles Morgan, at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter at (315) 464-3339.
3. If the securities are in your possession, send unendorsed certificates by registered, return receipt requested mail to: Director of Development, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, 411 Montgomery Street Syracuse, NY 13202
Please include your name, address, and phone number so that your gift can be properly acknowledged for tax purposes. In a separate envelope, mail a completed stock or bond power form for each certificate, left blank except for your signature. You may obtain a blank power from your bank or broker. Sign the power as your name appears on the certificate or bond. For further information, or if you are interested in making a gift of stock as part of a planned gift, please call our Director of Development at (315) 424-8222.
